SSL 인증서

SSL Certificate

An SSL Certificate is a security certificate that encrypts data between a website and the user's browser. Once applied, the address changes from http to https and a padlock icon appears. It is a baseline trust factor that Google has named as a ranking signal, and today it is mandatory for every site.

Why It Matters

  • Security - Encrypts sensitive data such as login and payment details, preventing interception.
  • Trust - Browsers flag non-https sites as 'Not Secure', raising the bounce rate.
  • SEO - Google has used https as a ranking signal since 2014, and it is a core check in Technical SEO.

In YMYL areas especially, security ties directly to credibility. The absence of https also works against EEAT evaluation.

Implementation and Checks

  • Most hosting providers and CDNs issue free certificates and renew them automatically.
  • After implementation, 301 redirect all http URLs to https.
  • If internal links, images, or scripts remain on http, a 'mixed content' warning appears.
  • Standardize the URLs in your canonical tags and sitemap to https as well.
  • Verify the applied status by checking indexed URLs in Google Search Console.

Notes

Today https is mandatory, not optional. SSL alone will not significantly boost rankings. But without it, you lose on trust, conversions, and search visibility alike. In AI search environments too, security and trust signals form the foundation of Generative Engine Optimization.
