CTR

CTR (Click-Through Rate) is the percentage of impressions that result in an actual click. It is a core metric showing how well an ad or search result drove user interest and clicks. It serves as the starting point for performance diagnosis in both Search Ads and SEO.

Formula

CTR = (Clicks ÷ Impressions) × 100

30 clicks on 1,000 impressions gives a CTR of 3%. The top organic search result commonly shows a CTR of 25-30%. Clicks drop sharply with each position lower in the ranking.

What It Means in Search Ads

  • A higher CTR raises your ad quality score.
  • A higher quality score lowers your CPC.
  • The same budget secures more impressions and clicks.

A low CTR signals that you should recheck the fit between creative, keywords, and the landing page.

What It Means in SEO

CTR on the SERP depends heavily on the appeal of your title and description. Google is known to reflect user behavior indirectly in rankings.

Notes

A high CTR with a low conversion rate means traffic does not turn into revenue. Exaggerated titles increase clicks but raise the bounce rate. 238lab reviews CTR and conversion together to diagnose content performance from both an SEO and GEO perspective.
